Fact:-

There are more than 8,000 new infections daily across the world.

Fact:-

Most new infections are in the 15-25 age group.
i.e. the most sexually active group.

Fact:-

After more than twenty years of research there still virtually no hope in the foreseeable future for an effective vaccine.

Fact:-

Must of the money being spent on the epidemic is for Antiretroviral drugs that help manage the symptoms and prolong life, but very little is being spent on prevention.

Fact:-

The number of people dying daily from complications due to AIDS is roughly equivalent to 27 fully loaded 747's going down each day.
If the current trends continues to go unchecked , by the year 2oo8 the number of deaths in South Africa due to complications from opportunistic infections  caused by the HIV AIDS is going to be equivalent to the 2004 Tsunami happening every 6 months.

Fact:-

The most effective means of prevention is abstinence from sex.  This has been proved by a program adopted in Uganda in the early years of this epidemic.  Through there abstinence program the age of first sexual encounter was shifted by two years and reduced the adult incidence rate of HIV from 20% in the 80 's to 5% currently.  Read more about Uganda's ABC Program....

Fact:-

This epidemic can be stopped but it cannot be legislated by governments it cannot be solved by the medical community, it cannot be stopped by flooding countries with condoms.  The only thing that will ever get it under control is individual choice to hold themselves to a high moral standard and take part in unnecessary potentially risky behavior.

It is essential to at least slow the rate of new infections until an effective vaccine is developed.
