help manage the symptoms and prolong life, but very little is being spent

number of people dying daily from complications due to AIDS is roughly
equivalent to 27 fully loaded 747's going down each day.
If
the current trends continues to go unchecked , by the year 2oo8 the number
of deaths in South Africa due to complications from opportunistic infections caused
by the HIV AIDS is going to be equivalent to the 2004 Tsunami happening every
6 months.

The
most effective means of prevention is abstinence from sex. This has
been proved by a program adopted in Uganda in the early years of this epidemic.
Through there abstinence program the age of first sexual encounter was
shifted by two years and reduced the adult incidence rate of HIV from 20%
in the 80 's to 5% currently. Read

This
epidemic can be stopped but it cannot be legislated by governments it
cannot be solved by the medical community, it cannot be stopped by flooding
countries with condoms. The only thing that will ever get it
under control is individual choice to hold themselves to a high moral
standard and take part in unnecessary potentially risky behavior.

It is essential to at least slow the rate of new
infections until an effective vaccine is developed. |
