Church-to-Church Partnership Program |
We
have had a relationship with Campus Crusade in Durban South Africa
since1994. It is through our Campus Crusade connection
that we have become involved in teaching the Smart
Choices HIV AIDS Prevention Program. The Smart Choices
seminar is a six hour extract from the Campus Crusade Crossroads program.
The way it works is: |
| 1. |
We here in the
states attempt to raise awareness with local churches about the ravaging
devastation that is being reeked on the African continent by the HIV AIDS
pandemic. |
| 2.. |
We get
commitments from American churches to participate in a two-week short-term
mission trip during the summer. |
| 3. |
Once we have a
commitment we notify CCC on Durban. They recruiting local churches
in the area that they want to target to team with us. They also
recruit schools that are willing to have this curriculum taught to their
students. The word is out about the effectiveness of this program and
schools are literally begging to be the next school to get the program. |
| 4. |
The CCC
team provides training on the Smart Choices program and basic evangelism
training. Now that we have some local churches trained in the Smart Choices program they will undoubtedly be involved in the training to
relieve the CCC team. They are stretched very thin providing this
vital service for us. |
| 5. |
We in turn run
similar training programs with the American churches. |
| 6. |
Individuals
participating in the trips do their own fund raising to cover their out of
pocket transport and living expenses and also cover the cost of the
training materials and equipment. |
| 7. |
Upon arrival in
the South Africa, we take one or two days as required to become acquainted
with our sister church members. We decide on a strategy about who is
teaching which sections and then do some dry runs through the course. |
| 8. |
After the three
days of teaching the Smart Choices program we go back to the school on
the fourth day for relationship building with the school. This
provides an opportunity for the local Churches to consolidate their ties
to the teaching staff and the students to foster a longer-term
relationship. Typically what this means is arranging to go back and
do the course with all grade levels. It also provides for an
environment for establishing discipleship and character building classes
at the school or at nearby church facilities. |
| 9. |
During the
second week two different plans can be followed:
Visit orphanages, hospitals, clinics or other facilities to become aware
of other needs or possible missionary outreach opportunities.
or
Repeat the whole Smart Choices plan at another school. |
